You know that feeling when a book grabs you by the throat and threatens to rip your heart out of your chest? ⠀

That's the wild ride that Elizabeth Acevedo's CLAP WHEN YOU LAND took me on last night. I seriously could not put it down. It's about two sisters who discover each other after their father dies in a plane crash. It's the story of love, loss, betrayal, secrets, and family. ⠀
⠀
I'm not sure that I normally would have picked this one up because it's written in verse and I don't usually love that. But honestly, this book is stunning and the lyrical voice worked here. Camino and Yahaira both have such distinct styles that I never had a problem knowing which sister was speaking when. And the poetry lends itself very well to portraying grief. ⠀
⠀
CLAP WHEN YOU LAND comes out on May 20th (pre-order it!) and it'll be on my favorites shelf for years to come. ⠀

Whenever I'm having a hard time, I crack open The Lord of the Rings. It reminds me, to quote Stephen Colbert (the #1 Tolkienite), "to find beauty in the tragedy." Because really, at the end of the day, we're all struggling with something. We all carry a heavy burden and we all need a little help sometime. Even the best people fall down or lose their way. ⁣

Kendare Blake literally slays me with this series. It has been on that I devour the second it arrives at my doorstep, and eagerly pine for sequels of ever since I read an ARC of Three Dark Crowns way back in May of 2016. And it is a series that has NOT disappointed me, not even once.

I would love to give a full review of Five Dark Fates here but instead I'll just give you my one sentence take on it: "A heart-pounding exploration of humanity, sisterhood, and the ties that bind us to one another, Five Dark Dates delivers the devastating, soaring, world-shattering conclusion promised in the first pages of Three Dark Crowns."

And this exclusive Five Dark Fates box from my friends @thebookishbox really does this series justice! I mean look at these exquisite dust jackets! The art is perfect. Arsinoe in particular is looking fierce and wild and I love her so much. And that tapestry is probably my new favorite wall hanging. I love that poem so much. The candle smells delicious. Really the only item missing that I was hoping for is a pin, but that's just because I'm a pin fanatic. Really it's a perfect box for a perfect series.

Years after a kind soul gave me this ARC, back when I had never even heard of the QUEEN @lbardugo I FINALLY read Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom. I really enjoyed them both. They're so different from The #grisha trilogy but they hooked me in all the same. I will admit that I still love the Ravka books best, but Ketterdam now holds some pretty premium property in my heart. 😍😍😍

Sometimes, you just want to harken back to simpler

Sometimes, you just want to harken back to simpler days. I have a terrible book confession: last year I only read 61 books. That is the lowest number I've ever read in a single year in my life. And this year I've only red a few and March is almost over.
The truth is between having a quickly-growing toddler, working on (and worrying over) a struggling marriage (that is getting better), writing more, working from home, moving, the death of my grandmother, and my mom's recent battle with cancer it's been impossible for me to carve out time for me to read, let alone get back into bookstagramming.
But I miss it so much, and I am trying to revitalize my blog and bookstagram this year so that I can continue to use this outlet. And because I recently looked at the NYT bestseller list and didn't immediately recognize three of the books on it, which is a travesty to me, lol.
Thank you guys for hanging out and waiting for me to work through all of this crap. I'm still not through it, but I am going to try to be present here anyway. I really do love and miss you guys so much!

Real talk: 2018 has been hard. I lost my grandma unexpectedly, and my husband told me that he wanted a divorce. So I've been on a prolonged hiatus, which has also been very difficult. I've missed this community so much. But I'm happy to say that my husband and I are working through our differences and we're making our marriage work. The whole family's been sick with stomach flu all week, but the bright side is that we got to marathon the extended editions of Lord of the Rings and I got to wear my amazing Hobbit at Heart sweatshirt from @teawithtolkien all day everyday with no shame. No one tells a sick momma that she should change her clothes every day (or three). I loved being back in Middle Earth, my home away from home, with my hobbit friends. Trying something a little different today. I always have a hard time photographing funkos, because I primarily do flatlays, but I love my custom @dustandpages funkos so much that I cannot contain myself any longer. Anyone have tips on incorporating funkos into flatlays more easily?

I've been home for a week now, but in my head I'm still at @beaulitfulcon. ♥️ Seriously, you must all go next year because it was absolutely wonderful. To illustrate how flipping fun it was I decided to try to put all of my merch into one pic. I couldn't fit my gorgeous Narnia bag from @chicklitdesigns (see previous post for a close-up of it!) but I managed to get everything else. Oh, except for my Sarai Funko from @dustandpages because it was a pre-order. But I can't wait for it to be in my hands.

It was such a dream come true to get to meet shops I have been in love with for years. I discovered that @chicklitdesigns makes phone cases for MY PHONE (how the heck was I unaware of this before) and @lexyolivia helped me finish off my collection (I now have every single one of her bookmarks. @ratherkeen and I are both dragon fanatics and he's an absolute gem of a person in real life. @riddlesteashoppe and I are going to be friends for life after bonding over our #lotr obsessions. The women over at @onfrolic are darling. I already knew Ruthie (@dustandpages) and Benita (@bookbeau) are perfect human beings and it was a delight to be in their presence once again. They inspire me every single day. And I finally met Justine and her fabulous husband (@thebookishbox). They gave me my very first rep opportunity two years ago and it changed my life. They're even better in person.

And then I got to connect with bookstagram friends like @litjoycrate, @owlcrate, @owlcratejr, @foldedpagesdistillery, and so many more! It was one of the best experiences I've had in a long time.

I seriously can't wait for the next one! I was so honored to get to be a panelists alongside BA women like @ohthebookfeels, @buttermybooks, @foldedpagesdistillery, and @vilmairisblog. I learned so much alongside them.

Kendare Blake literally slays me with this series. It has been on that I devour the second it arrives at my doorstep, and eagerly pine for sequels of ever since I read an ARC of Three Dark Crowns way back in May of 2016. And it is a series that has NOT disappointed me, not even once.

Really the only item missing that I was hoping for is a pin, but that's just because I'm a pin fanatic. Really it's a perfect box for a perfect series.

Years after a kind soul gave me this ARC, back when I had never even heard of the QUEEN @lbardugo I FINALLY read Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom. I really enjoyed them both. They're so different from The #grisha trilogy but they hooked me in all the same. I will admit that I still love the Ravka books best, but Ketterdam now holds some pretty premium property in my heart. 😍😍😍

Sometimes, you just want to harken back to simpler days. I have a terrible book confession: last year I only read 61 books. That is the lowest number I've ever read in a single year in my life. And this year I've only red a few and March is almost over.
The truth is between having a quickly-growing toddler, working on (and worrying over) a struggling marriage (that is getting better), writing more, working from home, moving, the death of my grandmother, and my mom's recent battle with cancer it's been impossible for me to carve out time for me to read, let alone get back into bookstagramming.
But I miss it so much, and I am trying to revitalize my blog and bookstagram this year so that I can continue to use this outlet. And because I recently looked at the NYT bestseller list and didn't immediately recognize three of the books on it, which is a travesty to me, lol.
Thank you guys for hanging out and waiting for me to work through all of this crap. I'm still not through it, but I am going to try to be present here anyway. I really do love and miss you guys so much!

The whole family's been sick with stomach flu all week, but the bright side is that we got to marathon the extended editions of Lord of the Rings and I got to wear my amazing Hobbit at Heart sweatshirt from @teawithtolkien all day everyday with no shame. No one tells a sick momma that she should change her clothes every day (or three). I loved being back in Middle Earth, my home away from home, with my hobbit friends. I've been home for a week now, but in my head I'm still at @beaulitfulcon. ♥️ Seriously, you must all go next year because it was absolutely wonderful. To illustrate how flipping fun it was I decided to try to put all of my merch into one pic. I couldn't fit my gorgeous Narnia bag from @chicklitdesigns (see previous post for a close-up of it!) but I managed to get everything else. Oh, except for my Sarai Funko from @dustandpages because it was a pre-order. But I can't wait for it to be in my hands.

It was such a dream come true to get to meet shops I have been in love with for years. I discovered that @chicklitdesigns makes phone cases for MY PHONE (how the heck was I unaware of this before) and @lexyolivia helped me finish off my collection (I now have every single one of her bookmarks. @ratherkeen and I are both dragon fanatics and he's an absolute gem of a person in real life. @riddlesteashoppe and I are going to be friends for life after bonding over our #lotr obsessions. The women over at @onfrolic are darling. I already knew Ruthie (@dustandpages) and Benita (@bookbeau) are perfect human beings and it was a delight to be in their presence once again. They inspire me every single day. And I finally met Justine and her fabulous husband (@thebookishbox). They gave me my very first rep opportunity two years ago and it changed my life. They're even better in person.

And then I got to connect with bookstagram friends like @litjoycrate, @owlcrate, @owlcratejr, @foldedpagesdistillery, and so many more! It was one of the best experiences I've had in a long time.
