Top Ten Tuesday: UK Book Covers

I am FASCINATED by the differences in cover-designs all around the world. It just means so many more covers to love and collect! But I get GREEN with jealousy when I find a cover I love even more than the US edition – and these are some of my all-time favorite UK covers.

1. Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys

I am DYING over how much I love this cover. I NEED IT. I am even considering ordering a second copy of this book (which is a masterpiece) in order to get this edition. I believe Book Depository has it for like 9 USD. Totally worth it. Salt to the sea UK

2. An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir

I just really love the metallic glimmer of the UK cover. I liked the US (left) cover too, and the paperback covers are fine, but I do really love the explosion of embers on the original UK hardcover.

3. Lament by Maggie Stiefvater

There is something creepy (in the best possible way) about this cover of Maggie Stiefvater’s first book, Lament. I love this book, and can’t wait for her to go back to writing them, and I think this cover is awesome.

4. The Book Thief by Marcus Zusak

There is so much going on in this cover – I love the girl holding the book over her face, with the fade into a cityscape, and those fire edges. <3

5. The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

I am OBSESSED with this book, and I think that the UK hardcover is probably my favorite of all the covers. It’s so simple and classy, with just hint of magical whimsy to tie it all together.

6. Paper Towns by John Green

Despite being disappointed by the movie, I love Paper Towns. Unfortunately, I think the first US hardcover edition (which I have) had a kind of blah cover. This one is much more adorable, in my opinion, and I love all of the miniscule details.

7. Sinner by Maggie Stiefvater

Was I the only one disappointed to find out that the US hardcover of Sinner wouldn’t match with the original Wolves of Mercy Falls trilogy? The UK cover is much cooler, in my opinion, and I like how it matches the UK editions of the first three books.

8. The Smell of Other People’s Houses by Bonnie-Sue Hitchcock

I actually think both the US and UK covers of this book are to die for, but I am slightly leaning in towards this edition, with features this cute geometric design. I love how all the words connect too.

9. Wolf by Wolf by Ryan Graudin

RED RED RED RED RED. What better color to feature on a WWII book like this one???? Love it.

10. The Throne of Glass Series by Sarah J. Mass

I love how stark Aelin is on these covers. They stand out as being very minimal and dramatic, and I just keep finding myself drawn to them when I see them on instagram.

  1. Oh my gosh!!! I think I’m going to have to order a second copy of Salt to the Sea, too, because that cover is stunning!! I agree about the Throne of Glass covers — they UK editions are so much more beautiful!

  2. I really like the UK covers for all of Brandon Sanderson’s books. Much like with the Throne of Glass series they are white and then have bold strokes of color and I need to get them for myself. Oh, and the UK cover for The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet is leaps and bounds better than the US cover.
