Okay. Is this just about the cutest novella ever, or what?!? Rainbow Rowell sure knows how to captivate an audience, and Kindred Spirits is no exception. This is a charming, original story about a girl after my own heart, who decides to wait in line for four days before the The Force Awakens premiere.
I love so many things about this quirky novella… The setting, which I found brilliant and true to life (having waited absurdly early for a show or two in my lifetime – I’m no stranger to the strangely empty line that forms when you arrive way too early for something). The characters, who were truly adorkable (I’m looking at you, Gabe. I’m looking at you.). And the seamless integration of Star Wars throughout the story.
It was a brilliant move to choose the latest Star Wars release as the cultural phenomenon Elena, Troy and Gabe rally around and band together over. I found myself laughing at some of the references, and my heart swelled with pride with Elena defended their fangirling without a single speck of shame. Fangirls (and boys) are awesome, and Rainbow Rowell is the QUEEN of portraying them accurately in all their fun, fierce and loyal charms.
This is a great novella for anyone who loved Fangirl or who just happens to be a Fangirl (or boy). It was totally worth ordering from the UK, and I would do it again in a heartbeat.
